Geknipst: Ahm, well I guess...

Shirdonya Mitchell: (To team mate) Gimme a clean joke! Gimme a clean joke!
(To Laura) I don’t know no jokes, man!

Geknipst: Yeah, and you can’t pronounce the slogan either, so that’s the problem. =)

Team mate: So what’s the slogan?

Geknipst: Could you just introduce yourself a little bit? Your name, your age, what position you play and where you come from.

Shirdonya Mitchell: Ok, my name is Shirdonya Mitchell. I’m from Dallas, Texas. My number is 27 and I play Cornerback.

Geknipst: What is so special about the position you play? What do you have to do?

Shirdonya Mitchell: I pretty much knock balls down and I try to stop the receiver from catching balls or catching touchdowns. Pretty much the last part of the Defensive Line.

Geknipst: I heard, you used to play another position. What was it, and what was it about?

Shirdonya Mitchell: Yeah, in High School I played Receiver. I played receiver all through High School and I went to College playing Receiver. And I was a College Receiver for like 2 years when I decided to switch to Cornerback, because the Offence really wasn’t that good in college. So that’s why I switched and I have been playing Cornerback ever since.

Geknipst: Why did you decide to play football in general?

Shirdonya Mitchell: Why I decided to play football... well my mother put me in every sport. I played baseball, soccer. I did a little tennis - I did a little bit of everything - and football was the sport that came naturally to me. I just got on the field, running after the ball and I was fast. I just became good at it all of a sudden. So I just stuck with it through all my childhood. So far it’s doing pretty good for me.

Geknipst: Would you say, that there are any alternatives, any other sports that you would still do?

Shirdonya Mitchell: Hm, basketball. Basketball is my second love. If I was a little bit taller I would have probably went to College and tried to get a scholarship playing basketball. But I really ain’t that tall. But yeah, basketball. And I really like baseball too, because you don’t do too much on the field. So that’s another sport I like.

Geknipst: What did you do before you started your football career?

Shirdonya Mitchell: Actually, I was playing for the Miami Dolphins - back in the States in Miami, Florida. I was going for my third year. So that was what I’ve been doing before NFL Europe. And before that I was in college. Working, pretty much. I was playing football, but I also had a summer job. Pretty much working - that’s it.
